"It was more important that I brought our culture to Coachella." - Beyonce

Hello Glow Beauties!

Can we get a moment of silence for the first black women to headline Coachella. Now that's a bad bitch. I'm lost for words right now. lol like seriously Yonce? Im like literally shaking with happiness after watching Beyonce's #Netflix Movie #Homecoming. The whole movie I had fucking chills. I had to watch it twice, no lie. It felt like a big ass family reunion. lol my spirits were definitely elevated. I can't count how many times I yelled at the t.v. like, "Yassssssss biiiiiiiitch, you better get that shit." This movie is part concert and part documentary. Showing how this fabulous movie was made, her postpartum recovery, filled with cultural significance and the best part, the inspirational tribute to HBCU. Throughout the movie she also has inspiring quotes from Toni Morrison, Nina Simone, Alice Walker, Maya Angelou, Malcom X and other black geniuses. This was a history making act towering spectacles of black excellence.

The concept for Beychella was based around the Historically Black College University experience, from the greek life, marching band, vocalist and the majorettes. The outfits were off the chain. I loved the yellow and pink sorority hoodies that she wore. Although, in the documentary Beyonce stated that her father was a Fisk alum and she has never attended college but she did spend her life rehearsing at the Texas Southern University (HBCU in Houston) her connection to HBCU remains extremely personal. She stated she "always dreamed" of going to to HBCU but life had other plans for her. "My college was Destinys Child," she says. One thing I regret in life is not going to an HBCU and joining a sorority. I will try my hardest to educate my boys about HBCU.

Watching this movie you could never tell that this would have been a struggle for her. Beyonce originally meant to headline Coachella in 2017, but she ended getting pregnant unexpectedly with twins which caused her to postpone Beychella until next year. Even after having the babies it took a huge toll on her body. She suffered from high blood pressure, preeclampsia, and toxemia which made her undergo an emergency C-section. I salute her because I went through the same thing when I was pregnant and it took a huge toll on me physically and mentally, trying to reconnect with my body and mind postpartum was grueling. Beyonce stated, "There were days that I thought I'd never be the same. My strength and endurance would never be the same." Through the pep talks, workouts, strict diet (which contained no bread, no carbs, no sugar, no dairy, no meat, no fish, and no alcohol shit Im hungry for her), dedication she provided evidence of how hard she worked. Committed enough, they rehearsed for eight months. EIGHT MONTHS! Y'all! lol Six months after giving birth it was time to work on Beychella. She's the real WonderWomen.

She even released a surprised 40 track live album named, Homecoming. Beyonce is a phenomenal artist. Her legacy is as secure as her archive. This has inspired me to push harder in my dreams and never give up. And also BLACK is EXCELLENT!

Thanks for reading! Until next time, Chio!
